Too Many Similarities To Bully

I want to start my review by saying I have read all of Penelope's books, and enjoyed them all. This review are just my opinions. I completely get that Penelope has a million hard core fans, because I am a fan of hers as well. So if you don't agree with my review, that's cool with me. Differing opinions is what makes for great discussions!
SPOILER'S AHEAD!
After Chapter One I had suspected Trevor was the cause for whatever problem had occurred. His deep hatred for Michael was very apparent. By Chapter 6 - after reading about Trevor's phone call to Rika I knew I was right. As I continued reading all that kept going through my mind was that I had read a similar story. Oh yes! It was Bully! What are the similarities? Michael and Jared both had a disapproving/bully of a father, and a mother that was there but not present in their childs life. Tate/Rika both suffered from the death of a parent, and other parent not being around at all - basically leaving them both to deal with things and life on their own. Tate/Rika both were scaredy cats, not quite capturing the attention of the male bully until they started to "fight back". Jared/Tate/Michael/Rika - both next door neighbors, the men in both books doing obscenely terrible things to the girls in both books - and BAM! the men kinda 'apologize' to both girls, the girls throwing themselves at the men and then they have sex. All is forgiven! I can not wrap my head around this at all. This isn't a case of a boy pulling the girls hair on the play ground that he secretly likes, this is a case of MY HOUSE WAS BURNED DOWN!! My match books from my dad are destroyed! But hey - you're going to rebuild my house with your own money. I mean it! Otherwise I'm going to stomp my foot! Both Tate and Rika experienced a terrible sexual assault against them in both books by a boy/girl duo. Tate and Jared were filmed with out their knowledge at a party having sex, and then the video was released to everyone by a boy/girl duo,(can not remember their names) Rika was given a drink with the date rape drug in it by Astrid and then the Miles/Astrid duo proceeded to try and rape her at a party. Jared/Michael both had a brother and Tate/Rika were both only children.
The threesome with Kia/Rika/Michael?? Where in the hell did this come from? The whole scene was just awkward. They are in a sauna getting it on, Oh hey guys.. Kia here. I'm seriously bummed out from being in jail and I just can't even think of getting with a woman. Oh wait! Rika feels bad for me, and my timing is perfect because Michael can't say I love you back. Lets all have a threesome! And wow, Michael looking out for Rika and so conveniently throwing Kia a condomn! Nothing says love like - hey you're gonna screw my girl with me in a sauna, better wrap it up!
Wasn't Madock in love with Tate too??
Then the ending - Michael shoots Trevor. A few weeks later the parents who just lost their son by the hands of their other son are having Thanksgiving at their house! What the actual F??? Oh and Damon is gone. Damon - the dude that basically hate screwed every girl he was with, drove Rika to a deserted field, kidnapped her, and sided with Trevor in the end.... yeah, just let him go. He failed twice to rape/kill me just let him go. He's a psychopath, but after failing he totally won't come after any of us again!
I enjoyed this book, but after a while I was pondering the similarities between the books way too much. I also starting counting how many times "bile rose in my throat", or "bile from my stomach" was used. I didn't necessarily think this book was "dark", I think it was a bunch of entitled rich boys bullying a girl who did not wrong them in any way - running around with paintball masks on. Then when rich entitled boys find out that Rika didn't put them in jail and Trevor did - it seems the guys just called it a day on the whole "you're gonna pay" campaign.

Was I the only one who didn't like this book? The reviews are what made me purchase but the plot is too far fetched and somewhat boring. At the end of the book I thought "what happened?" Not my cup of tea...

Not for me

No, just no. Up until this book I didn't think penelope Douglas could do wrong. This book is well written because she is a good writer but the plot jumps all over the place. ********spoiler alert********** the threesome. Really? Made no freaking sense. I'm sure people will like it because it's 'different' but it just wasn't for me.
