About the Author

I'm reviewing the book, Arthritis and Folk Medicine, by Dr. Jarvis. An interesting event occurred many years ago regarding the contents of this book, and I hope it will help me and others, in giving it a try. Here goes.
In 1949 my mother married for a second time, this time to a pleasant, compassionate and honorable man, in every sense of the word, the man I grew up with. He was a dentist, practicing in the town of Flushing, in the county of Queens, in NYC. He was born in 1896 and entered the army as a captain in the Dental Corps during World War I. After the war he continued in private practice until about 1965. At near 70 years old, he had practiced dentistry for close to 50 years, and by that time had developed painful arthritis. He considered retiring, as X-ray evidence showed that nearly all of the joints on the right side of his body were severely arthritic, presumably from leaning over a dental chair, with weight on his right side, using his right arm, hand and shoulder, for so long.
I was about 21 years old at the time and I'm not sure exactly how he came upon this book, but he did and he followed the words of Dr. Jarvis to the letter for about 6 months, or maybe even a little less. He felt much better and a new series of X-rays showed that the arthritis was gone from his joints. I remember him drinking this honey and vinegar concoction multiple times a day and a fisherman, he loved eating fish, so he was right at home in Jarvis' program. Myself, I never even once tasted the honey and vinegar. However at 21, I was very impressed with the unexpected X-ray results, as were the puzzled doctors. Nevertheless, the evidence was there. After a time he realized that he could stray from the restrictions of the diet a bit, with no catastrophic results. He remained pain free, practicing until he was 80 years old; he then retired. In my own mind, I thought how remarkable this was and just as importantly, I recognized that someday I might be in the same position with arthritis. The original book he purchased in 1965 came into my possession and I kept it with me for the next 49 years. Today that 21 year old stepson is also 70 years old and arthritis is closing in on me as well. I have lived in many places over the years, in NY, AZ and now in northern ID. Somehow I managed to always keep the book with me and though I have read it several times, I reread it yesterday and have embarked on Dr. Jarvis' program. Having seen it work on a member of my own family, I have entered Dr. Jarvis' world without hesitation. I have the hope that it will work for me as it did for my stepfather so many years ago. To all of you reading this, it is worth a try; the alternatives on all levels are pretty grim.

HIGHLY RECCOMEND FOR SEEKERS OF GOOD HEALTH

I have a passion about learning good nutritional information. Reading this book taught me about the eating habits of healthy, hard working Vermonters for the last couple hundred years. I can say that drinking the vinegar, honey and water mix is making my arthritic hip joint feel better. No more stabbing pain. I drink 6 to 8 ounces of the honey/ vinegar mix (2 tsp. raw apple cider vinegar, 2 tsp. raw honey and water) with each meal. I make up a quart at a time and add 1/8 tsp. of Celtic sea salt to the quart. That's 8 tsp. vinegar and 8 tsp. honey to each quart and water to fill the jar. I think drinking the solution has dissolved the bone spurs on my hip joint which were seen on my last xray. Bone spurs are calcium deposits in the wrong place in the body. Bone spurs snag nerves causing pain. D.C. Jarvis M.D. says the vinegar solution puts the misplaced calcium back into solution and re deposits the calcium into the bones and teeth where calcium belongs. The solution also helps with digestion.

Not a must have

This book is cute and I added my own notes. Since I spent $13, I have to use it. At this point, I can say, this little book doesn't deserve $13 but $8 or less. Other than few grammar and spelling errors, I didn't find any concept error and I have a masters in MPH Methodology. I was curious and the reason I bought it. I like his "Best of Luck on your exams", message...;)
