Instead, it ranges widely over "topics identified by a survey of music education researchers as important issues in music teaching and learning in the 21st century," including multiculturalism, gender issues, training teachers, and the philosophy of research theory. Editors Colwell (music education, emeritus, Univ. of Illinois) and Richardson (music education, Sch. of Music, Univ. of Michigan) present 71 essays with the help of 92 contributors and a profusion of advisors; in this new edition, those contributing essays are not just noted scholars in music education but scholars from many other fields. About the Author
Richard Colwell is Professor Emeritus of Music Education at the University of Illinois and Adjunct Professor of Music Education at the University of Michigan. He is the founding editor of the Bulletin of the Council for Research in Music Education and the Quarterly Journal of Music Teaching and Learning. He is also a Guggenheim scholar.
Carol Richardson is Associate Professor and Chair of Music Education at the School of Music, University of Michigan. She currently chairs t e Music Education SIG of the American Educational Research Association. She received a National Acade CROSSUP.0 L n my stdoctoral fellowship for her 1995 study of Cambodian children's music-listening processes. Her most recent book, Music Every Day: Transforming the Elementary Classroom, with co-author Betty Atterbury, was published by McGraw-Hill in 2001.

Pricy, but still good value

The New Handbook of Research on Music Teaching and Learning is a very substantial reference work prepared under high scholarly standards and useful to the music researcher on numerous topics. It was a required text for a doctoral course, but I will keep it for future reference for many years to come. Amazon's price was the best I could find, even beating the used price of several other sites. Delivery was very fast.
