Great Intro

Great introduction to Calvados!
Nice (Needs constant updating) list of vendors/manufacturers.
Good history of Calvados and similar products.
If you know nothing about Calvados, this really is the book to get. Good pix (and maps) to get you started.
I was knowledgeable (not to be too self-serving) but enjoyed this as an intro for others and to refresh my own (all-knowing, snooty, arrogant) knowledge on a wonderful (and very interesting) consumable from a wine producing country that acknowledges that intelligence can overcome less than perfect growing situations. The history lesson is VERY informative.
BTW, I remember my mother (from Normandy) eating "yucky" snails and drinking this stuff called "Calvados".
In deference to her, I can now state that I make some mean escargots and enjoy a good Calvados.
Who knew one's parents had a clue.

Excellent survey of the topic with great pictures

I purchased the Kindle version of this book.
The book gives a thorough, readable survey of how Calvados is made, its several hundred year history, what to look for when tasting it, and an extensive list of the orchards and distillers who make it. (I supplemented this with online reviews and ratings of the brandies.) The Kindle version is notable for reproducing lots of high quality pictures of the pots and alembics and casks used to make Calvados, pictures of the bottles, the farms in Normandy and the people who run them. If you are interested in reading about Calvados brandy, it is hard to imagine what more a general-interest book could tell you.
